Ellende is a Japan based project by a dutch guy and his music/sounds
is
not easy to describe, but definitely worth to check it.
It’s a kind of drone-music… Where drone based compositions are mixing with
strange noises and many effects and sounds. Concentrate…open your mind… hear and enjoy
the
surreal soundscapes and the own world of Ellende.

Slowly
the name Ellende becomes more and more known, through a steady stream of releases,
all of them, so far, on the CDR format. The Dutch guy in Japan has a strong
interest in drone like music, but as opposed to so many others, Ellende is
interested in putting on smaller tracks, as opposed to longer ones and also
he combines his drones with the addition of strange, otherworldly sounds.
Samples of percussive sounds are to be noted here and there, but in some cases
it's just not very clear what these sources are. Added to the embedded sounds
of drone like material, the whole thing gets a strange, alienated atmosphere.
Like being captured in a space ship that has been on crusade for many lightyears
and that is slowly falling part with yourself trapped in it. Quite nice, once
again.
The thin microsound constructions of Ellende this time lead us towards experimentations
less gloomy and different from his recent releases. Sure a good return that
will be appreciated by every fan of the low-noise abstractions, the adepts
of extrasensory dimensions based on refined sonorities, endowed with infinite
droney microcosms, real noises and samples. Executions with cinematic valences
in order to extend beyond the void synthetic shadows, feelings previously
felt in "Eraserhead" or in the thoughts of "Solaris".
Ellende peers mathematical functions movements through its light probes, infiltrating
among the dust of decadent geometric shapes and dying equations, and still
in these minimal impulses a strange heat seems to animate every gray mechanism.
Nine mysterious alienating expansions, with spiral stratifications and fragmented
glares, impossible to find again the way to go out, impossible to catch every
vision. Algebraic isolazionism.

Sehr minimal ist die auf Tosom erschiene CD"Mathematica" von Ellende.Nichts
für kurzlebige Effektgeier, vielmehr spült die Zeit zwischen dezent angeschlagenen,
leicht archaischen, mitunter auch rostigen Geräuschen aus bisher ungehörten
Pfeifen, schräg kreisenden Obertönen und blechernen Loops.

Wer
oder was hinter ELLENDE steckt, wird zwar auchaus dem Infoblättchen nicht
ganz klar, aber immerhin das Label TOSOM sagt mir etwas. Drone-artige Klänge,
meditative und sehr reduzierte Veröffentlichungen von STILLSTAND oder CONSCIENTIA
PECCATI hatte man hier bisher veröffentlicht, und die damit geweckten Erwartungen
werden auch bei der vorliegenden CD nicht enttäuscht: „ambient“ ist das Material
im ursprünglichen Sinn, diese Musik kann man entweder nebenbei- oder nur ganz
gezielt per Kopfhörer hören. Mir persönlich ist die Reduzierung auf grundlegende
Klänge und Effekte allerdings schon ein wenig zu weit getrieben. Das Wort
„Langeweile“ würde ich gern vermeiden, aber „sehr sehr anstrengend“ dürfte
die Sache doch ganz gut treffen – es zirpt, fiept, blubbert um einen herum,
alles in minimaler Lautstärke, und alles leider ohne richtige Höhepunkte.
Als „ambient“, als Hintergrundbeschallung für ein Museum meinetwegen, mag
das das richtige sein, bei mir hat’s leider keinen Nerv getroffen.
ELLENDE, ein in Japan aktiver Holländer, ist mit seinem Mathematica (TOSOM
012, CDR) ein ungewöhnlicher TOSOM-Artist. Nicht was das Klangbild angeht,
das passt ins dröhnende Labelideal. Aber die Konnotationen verweisen hier
erstmals ins Modernistisch-Abstrakte. Das Klangzentrum ist städtisch, nicht
ländlich-bukolisch. Und es gibt eine humoristische Unterströmung in Titeln
wie 'I love the way she calls me >idiot<', 'Think Bucky, think' oder 'The
question is'. Wobei sich dieser feine Humor hütet, im Klang zu Tage zu treten.
Ellendes Geräuschwelt ist die geräuschhafteste, gleichzeitig nüchternste und
rätselhafteste im TOSOM-Nebel. Ein rumpelndes, wenn man so will natürlich
auch 'dunkles' Grummeln und noisiges Molekular-Gemurmel duckt sich flach am
Boden entlang. Jedes Stück bewegt sich in einem schmalen Korridor, konzentriert
sich etwa auf ein monoton wiederholtes Schnarren, kreiert mit wenigen Effekten
ein surreales Ichweißnichtwas. Ellende gefällt sich in Lakonie. Auch seine
etwas hermetische Website wartet lediglich mit ernüchternden Zen-Sprüchen
auf: It's normal to be normal - the hero needs to go - Beat is murder... Dieser
letzte Satz fasst die TOSOM-Ästhetik, die insgesamt die einst vom italienischen
AMPLEXUS-Label gesponnenen Sound- & Dreamscape-Fäden fortzuspinnen scheint,
summarisch zusammen.
